Strengthening of children justice in Iraq
DMI has participated, on Saturday 10th December 2011, to the Iraq National Conference on Justice for Children. The conference took place in Erbil (KRG), with the support of the UNICEF. Our experts have presented a summary of the preliminary findings of an assessment, conducted at the request of UNICEF, of the Iraqi way to handle children in contact with the law. The assessment is based on a survey of about 150 respondents through ad hoc questionnaires including open questions. The survey covers all manners of stakeholders, including Civil Society.
The presentation has been used to structure the ensuing discussions in the strategic planning workshops, which aimed at identifying priority recommendations for reform of the system.
The workshops have gathered about a hundred iraqi institutional actors of Juvenile justice from Central Iraq and from KRG: Ministries of Internal Affairs, of Justice, of Labour and Social Affairs, of Education, of Health,as well as judges and directors of detention centres.
