Prevention of Corruption within the Court System

Description

The project involved a team of legal, technical (IT), training and communications experts to develop a more transparent court system compatible with acquis communitaire and the Copenhagen criteria. The objective was to achieve court transparency through improved work flow and improvement availability of court opinions and other court information; included development of a court portal on the Internet, development of a database for court decisions, development and implementation of a search engine for court decisions published in Latvian and integration of the IT systems in the Latvian courts. The project involved high level co-ordination with the Ministry of Justice, different levels of Courts including the Supreme Court, the Court House Agency, and the Forensic Institute. The project involved review and adaptation of legislation, adaptation and development of IT systems, development of legal data bases compatible with the EU directive on data privacy, development of a portal and search engine, training of judges and court workers, and development and implementation of a change management strategy for pilot courts.
